Pathways for Developing Critical Thinking While Learning at Home

Pathways for Developing Critical Thinking While Learning at Home is a program to help students and parents who face challenges associated with teaching and learning at home. The aim of this program is for students to improve academic skills, metacognition, and resilience by supplementing their assigned course work with critical thinking strategies. This program is offered to students through in-person or online learning sessions.

Student Learning Sessions:

Once intake is completed, an analysis of the student’s course work is conducted to integrate enriching critical reasoning components. Two or three, 60-minute learning sessions per week, are delivered over a 12-week cycle. Each session includes both cognitive development exercises and critical thinking using the student’s course work. Additional resources may be suggested for the student’s use. Sound therapy and neuro-reflexes may be recommended.

Meet Jessica

It is my belief that human beings are designed to discover truth and embrace that which is good as they pursue happiness. This requires that we must be able to perceive our relationships and environments accurately, reason aptly, and respond rightly to the challenges we face. The ability to do so successfully is dependent upon our sensory-motor system, cognitive abilities, resilience, and moral character. As a cognitive development practitioner, I am committed to helping my clients integrate their sensory-motor system, build their cognitive abilities, and develop the resilience they need for purpose-filled growth during their pursuit of happiness.

It has been a privilege for me to work with a diverse population of people. This includes one-on-one cognitive development sessions as well as creating and implementing an early intervention reading program for at-risk children, coaching adults in the areas of motivation and resilience, and preparing and presenting brain health workshops designed to improve memory skills for seniors.

My classroom experience includes teaching in a mixed grade classroom and writing courses and lesson plans for PK-12 grades using an American Classical, Concept-Based approach that develops cognitive skills and critical thinking. In addition to a Master of Education focused on Human Development and Cognitive Psychology, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and am certified to teach Psychology. The continuing education I have received includes licensing and certificates in the areas of cognitive development and neuroeducation that include a therapeutic application of both.
